Like all of the best things at Verve and in life, this partnership was born from a relationship. Matt Tilley, Verve’s Coffee Operations Manager, is brother to Jacob Tilley, Young the Giant’s founding member and guitarist. In addition to being brothers, the two are close friends and were dreaming of a way to collaborate. While catching up on the phone, the idea came into focus, and Same Folk Blend was born. This collaboration celebrates relationships and oneness, and we’re proud to bring it to you.
100% of the proceeds from all sales of Same Folk Blend will be donated to Irvine High School, in Derek Venlet’s name to support music education.
Derek Venlet passed away in the Spring of 2023 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Better known as Mr. V. by his students, he was a beloved jazz and marching band teacher at Irvine High School, where 3 of the Young The Giant band members attended, known for filling the space between notes with laughter and life lessons and for bringing out the very best in his students. We’re honored to continue his legacy by supporting Mr. V’s passion for music education.
