About this Coffee

Sweet morning sipping comes easy with this coffee. The crisp, mellow nectar of melon creates a balanced sweetness. Refreshing citrus notes remind us of strawberry lemonade tasting exactly like summer in a cup. This coffee is easy and delicious to brew in any way. We especially love it on pour-over and french press.

Franklin Madrid has been a long time farm level partner of ours. The first coffee we bought from him came from his farm La Patepluma. Franklin in addition owns La Fortuna, and La Pena. Franklin is a second generation farmer, passing on the family tradition and La Pena to his son Denilson Madrid, another farmlevel partner of ours.

These farms are situated at the base of the national forest in Santa Barbara, engulfed by a dense fog that creates low temperatures. Sugars in the cherry gradually develop, while rich soil remains moist. It’s this type of climate that coffees from Santa Barbara gain their deep complexities and acidities.

Franklin has historically grown yellow and red catuai, but on our recent visit to Honduras, he showed us his new gehsa nursery. The seedlings are still young, and it will be years before we will get to cup them. For now we are excited about the innovation and tradition that Franklin carries on. When he isn’t farming coffee, Franklin is farming avocados to sell locally. He also opened a gas station this year in the town Peña Blanca.
