About this Coffee
It’s been a while since we’ve had Ecuador pop up on the map! We bought this coffee through Makicuna who we have been working with to source coffees for our three-tier range since 2020. They specialise in sourcing high-quality, speciality grade, Ecuadorian coffees!
The name of this coffee ‘Gladys Erazo’ is the name of the farmer who produced it. She is an active member in the local association of coffee growers. Active members get the benefits of consultancy by agro-engineers, coffee processing experts and accountants to name a few. She is also a beekeeper and sells honey to the local market. Gladys’ farm is 1.8 hectares (about 4.5 acres) and produces roughly 600 kg of dried green coffee a year. The farm is tucked in between hills, covered by many diverse trees and bordered by a river that comes straight from Podocarpus National park.
There’s quite a lot going on when you take a sip of this coffee. Notes of grape and dark cherry are what hit you first, with a very nice winey aftertaste that lingers on the palate. It’s super sweet too and you could describe the sweetness as brown sugar or even honeycomb. It’s super easy drinking and has a bit of sparkle in the cup. With milk it’s a bit milkshake-y (if we can even use that as a word) with a praline hit.
