About this Coffee

The Kagere wet mill is part of the Othaya Farmer’s Cooperative society limited. Collectively they farm 111 hectares of rich volcanic and phosphorus soil, which creates the sparkling acidity associated with this region. Producers in this region grow sl28, sl34, ruiru 1 and batian. Most of the coffees from Nyeri develop and mature slowly producing extra hard beans. This is why Nyeri is traditionally known as the heart of Kenya’s black gold coffee. Kagere Factory is located between rivers Gura and Mumwe. Nyeri County has cool temperatures (13-26 degrees) and fertile central highlands, lying between the eastern base of the Aberdare (Nyandarua) Range, which forms part of the eastern end of the great Rift Valley, and the western slopes of Mt. Kenya. Nyeri town (county headquarters) acts as a destination for those visiting Aberdare National Park and Mt. Kenya. This mill holds fairtrade certification.
