About this Coffee

In 2009, Dorman’s, a Kenya based coffee exporting company, bought the remote Kanzu washing station in Rwanda. Kanzu is so remote, in fact, that there is no road to the station, and instead, you must drive to the closest town and hike the remainder of the distance. However, Dorman’s recognized the incredible quality coming from the station and the smallholder producers contributing to it, and wanted to try to bring it to the global specialty market.

We’ve been purchasing coffees from Kanzu for many, many years, and we’ve always been astonished by how the quality gets better and better each year. There’s just something about the character of these coffees that you can’t taste anywhere else. They are bright, tart, and incredibly sweet — like drinking a lemon lime soda, or eating a citrus hard candy. The coffee is also incredibly floral and herbaceous, reminding us of a refined and sweet oolong tea.
