About this Coffee
As we head into the year end holiday season, we have lined up an amazing coffee to share with you. This coffee is nothing short of the ordinary and came in 4th in 2023 Nicaragua Cup of Excellence. Named after the 2nd highest mountain in Nicaragua, Cerro de Jesús, the farm is also part of the Dipilto and Jalapa mountain ranges in the Nicaraguan border with Honduras.
Its unique location is truly a mecca for the biodiversity of flora and fauna. The founders of the farm started the project with 2 parallel ambitions – the desire to produce quality coffee and preserve the natural environment and community that is home to Cerro de Jesús, The farm’s first activity was to immediately halt slash-and-burn practices on the newly acquired lands and establish the private forest reserve.
Being certified as Rainforest Alliance since 2012, much effort have been put in place to protect the environment and promote strict standards for social and farm management standards, including shade grown coffee and water source preservation. The farm owners also ensure that their seasonal workers receive a good pay and have provided a range of services for the community, including a school, a church and electricity supply.
The farm grows nine varieties including the winning Pacamara lot. In 2018, the farm also came in 3rd with the same variety, a statement of the quality that is produced. It’s the 1st time we have participated in a COE auction and we are thrilled have secured a small lot of the winning coffee at US$8.2/lb.
This coffee is incredibly complex, with notes of cranberries, cherries, candied orange, red grapes and rose like floral undertones. There is so much going on in the cup and probably the most complex Pacamara we’ve tasted. We’ll be roasting this lot over 6 weeks (every Wed). Get a bag before it runs out!
