About this Coffee

With an accentuated floral flavor and brighter acidity thanks to its Green Tip Geisha varietal, the Panama Janson Geisha Natural Lot 260 will blow you away with notes of peach, elderflower, and kumquat. This new Geisha is from the Janson Family Coffee Farm, from a lot close to the border between Panama and Costa Rica, which has given this coffee even more unique qualities you won’t find elsewhere.

This Green Tip Geisha is grown at 1700 M on the slopes of Los Alpes. Process: A natural process of 48 hrs fermentation then layed out to sun dry on patio and static dryer for 17 days.

The Janson coffee farm is actually run by first and second generation of Janson family members. Janson farms is a family owned Hacienda established in 1941, (originally a cattle farm), by Carl Axel Janson an immigrant from Sweden. It was Carl’s sons Carl, Michael, Ricardo and Peter who established Janson Coffee on 1989. There two coffee plantations are located on the Talamanca Mountain Range on the slopes of Tisingal and Baru volcanoes. Short name for Hacienda las Lagunas is our farm located at 1,350-1,400 masl, in the region of Volcán. Hacienda las Lagunas, named after its lagoons and wetlands, is located West of the Barú Volcano, with a rich volcanic soil and several natural springs.

The different lots of the coffee plantation are surrounded by areas of a natural reserve which serve as natural barriers to protect the plantation and are also a vital habitat for a large variety of birds and wildlife. Los Alpes was named after the Swiss Alps.

This farm is located at 1600-1700 masl, in Tisingal, on the Talamanca mountain range of western Panama, NW of the Baru Volcano, bordering La Amistad International Park, a natural reserve which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a park that crosses the border from Panama into Costa Rica and is home to many species, including the famous Quetzal. Between the two farms we have a total of 100 hectares of coffee planted with the arabica varieties Geisha, Caturra, Catuai and Pacamara.

We have our own nursery where we select specialty grade arabica seeds for our seedlings for the 4 varieties. In our farms quality production with harmony is our goal. We keep a balance of nutrients in the soil using enzyme microorganisms, no pesticides, no herbicides among others. The farms are micromanaged in lots for traceability and quality control. Plantations are separated by forest which serve as natural barriers against pests and also protect the natural flora and fauna of the region.

The environment is important for us.400 solar panels produce the energy for our Farm and Plant, plus all excess matter from our processing is reused as fuel or fertilizer. Seeds from our forests are planted inour nursery for reforestation and protection of our water resources. Water from our springs is used forour wet process. We are 100% committed to improve and protect our environment. Beneficio (Plant): Our beneficio (processing plant) was built in 1993, designed exclusively for specialty coffee, including several selections to be able to separate coffee by quality and origin.

We do natural and wash process by using updated technology combined with artisanal methods to obtain the best quality. We have a special temperature and humidity-controlled storage facility to store our green beans in the best environment in order to preserve quality. Constantly focusing on improving quality, we have earned several BOP awards with our coffee being always among the best, on the semifinal and final tables of the Best of Panama.
