About this Coffee
Saareji is a village in Gedeb among the high altitudes of Ethiopia. Gedeb is a county located in the Gedeo zone of Ethiopia and is known for its rich history in coffee, the farmers have a reputation for upholding traditional and sustainable practices, which have been passed down through generations. While Saareji is not the biggest of villages, the 150 Saareji smallholders tend to their coffee cherries with care and dedication.
As the cherries ripen, they are handpicked by the farmers and delivered to the nearby Worka washing station, owned and operated by the exporters at Melkalati Trading PLC. Here, the cherries are pulped using an ‘Aagaard’ coffee wet pulper machine and then soaked in water for 48 hours as part of the wet fermentation process.
This quality-focused approach is not only a celebration of the history and character of these coffees but also a tribute to the skilled and dedicated smallholders who have grown them. We enjoy every bit of this complex, juicy and delightfully vibrant washed coffee.
