About this Coffee
East Timor is situated in South East Asia with Australia to the South.
This delicious coffee comes from the Cristo Liurai cooperative, who are committed to processing high quality speciality coffee.
Led by Luis Santos de Jesus, this group of 13 smallholder farmers take great pride in their work, striving to not only to provide a consistent and sustainable income for their families and the local community, but also to contribute towards Timor-Leste’s coffee being recognised within the speciality coffee sector.
Given this part of Letefoho being located close to the top of the mountain, in contrast to the nearest water source being further down the mountain, many of the members make the daily hike up to harvest their cherries and will then carry them to their homes to be processed. With this year’s extended wet season, this allowed for further community collaboration between Francisco de Deus (from the Rotutu group) and Luis, in installing portable drying racks to facilitate better quality control during the drying process. Shared knowledge between groups and support at point of need for our partner farmers will continue to remain a priority going forward, particularly with the potential possibility of changes in climate.
