About this Coffee

We first were introduced to Vianel Vasquez, the farmer of Finca Pedernales in 2021 when a few of our team members visited our Alma-adoption farming partners in Belen Gualcho—both of which are not far from our own family farms in Copan, Honduras. The “Pedernales” bright roast hails from a high-altitude and family-owned farm which local farmers call “Finca Pedernales.” In Spanish, the word “Pedernales” comes from a mineral found in the mountains which is believed to make a positive impact on the soil conditions for coffee farming.

Upon first introduction, we knew this 1,900-meter-high coffee farm was something special, and our farming team committed to forging a new relationship with these farmers intended to improve lives and yield extraordinary coffee.

Roast Story:

We’ll admit, we held on to this coffee for a few months at our climate-controlled warehouse and secretly enjoyed it amongst the team. For our local café customers, you may have even tried it as one of our “barista choice” roasts while we were deciding what roast profile would suit it best. Deciding on how to roast this particular coffee was difficult at first, mainly because we found a few roast options that suited the coffee well yet vastly varied from each other. After many different roast renditions, we settled on a lighter profile roast that truly highlights Finca Pedernales’ fruity complexity.
