Single O Coffee
Co-founded in 2003, we were formerly known as Single Origin Roasters, but were quickly abbreviated by our original Surry Hills café’s customers because, well, Australia mate
Raised on a passion for sourcing, sampling, cupping, roasting, measuring, calibrating, tweaking, blending & tasting, Single O has been putting all things coffee on a pedestal for over 18 years now. Blown away by the subtle yet distinct flavour of every single origin, when taking our first crack at creating a blend, we had an epiphany around the wonders of straight up single origins and introducing them to customers. We set about chasing choice, totally traceable & unblended beans from around the world and sharing their stories via tasting notes and producer info.
Many years, millions of beans & f**k knows how many cups of coffee later, we’re still getting our grind on in our Surry Hills café and brew bar ably supported by our solar-powered Botany roastworks, where we roast for hospitality heads and homebodies locally and interstate. Let’s not forget our sister roastworks & tasting bar in Tokyo, Japan, either.
We’re not saints, but we try to source socially and environmentally sound beans, products & produce, as well as reusing and repurposing at every opportunity. From beans and blending to single-use surrendering, we recognise the importance of fresh ideas and innovation – just ask The Juggler, a world-first purpose built café milk-on-tap system we had a hand in, which has saved over 18 million plastic bottles from the waste stream, so far.
Our No Death to Coffee initiative continues to raise funds to fight climate change induced bean species scarcity and we see 1% for the Planet and carbon neutral club memberships as extra steps in the right direction.
Single O acknowledges the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we roast and brew. We also acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the many lands on which our coffee is served and recognise their continued connection to country. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and future.
