About this Coffee

Elmer Lopez named his farm Los Pinos after the towering pine trees that populate the area surrounding his home. He purchased his 18 hectare farm in 2013, and now, at age 48, continues performing the labor on the farm in pursuit of consistent, high quality coffees.

The region of Huehuetenango is one of the first that we ever traveled to in the very early days of ReAnimator. We were astonished at the soaring elevations and incredible mountainside farms that small producers maintained, sometimes so steep it felt impossible to walk down them; let alone grow, maintain, and harvest coffee on. But that elevation, and the associated climate, creates an incredible set of growing conditions for coffee.

The flavors out of Huehuetenango are often more explicitly fruit-forward than is typical of other areas of Guatemala. In this lot specifically, we’re tasting tart cherry, apple cider, and raspberry jam.
